Conrad L. Kurtz

Conrad "Connie" Lee Kurtz, 94, of 201 Rosehill Circle, Staunton, departed us on Sunday, July 26, 2026 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Conrad was born in Waynesboro, on March 6, 1932, the son of the late John Emmett and Bertha Marie Herron Kurtz. 

He grew up in Waynesboro attending Waynesboro High School where he played football and ran track. After high school in 1951 he attended and played football at Fishburne Military Academy for one year. Conrad was later inducted into the Waynesboro High School Hall of Fame.

Conrad married his beloved wife, Jo Ann Kiracofe, on October 17, 1952, and they soon moved to Staunton where they lived together until Jo Ann's passing in July 2021. 

Conrad worked for VDOT for thirty-two years at the Staunton office as the District Utilities Engineer before his retirement. His passion for football led him to coach in the Staunton Little League program for seventeen years, where he focused on teaching first time players the fundamentals and sportsmanship.

Conrad was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Staunton for many years. As an active leader in the church, Conrad served as an elder and clerk of session. As Conrad's health began to decline, he found great comfort attending church at Bethany. Bethany will forever be his church home and he will be greeting many of his church family in his Heavenly home.

Conrad is leaving behind his sons, Charles Conrad Kurtz and wife his Heather, Bradley Lee Kurtz and his wife, Anita, and Troy Emmett Kurtz and his partner, Laura Matheny; his grandchildren, Kelsey Smith and her husband Justin, Kaitlin Godwin and her husband, Ryan, Alysia Pope and her husband, Brandon, Courtney Hajducky and her husband, Matt, Camden Kurtz and his wife, Ella, and Bryce Holmes and her husband, Austin; and her great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Stryker, Sullivan, Rhett, Reid and Emmett. 

The family would like to especially thanks his caregiver, Joyce Hale, along with Jackie Kurtz - both of whom will always be part of our family. Additional thanks and appreciation goes out to the hospice caregivers for all their loving care over the past year and taking time to listen to all of dad's stories from the past.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend John Craft officiating. 

Inurnment at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton will immediately follow.
