Daniel Randall Richardson, 86, of Ashburn, passed away peacefully under hospice care on Saturday, October 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Bridgewater Retirement Community.

Daniel was born on July 26, 1940, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late Martha (Coote) Richardson. He was raised in Clear Lake, Iowa, by his mother and stepfather, John Richardson. In 1974, he married Jacqueline Marie Foley.

Daniel proudly served twenty years in the United States Army, retiring in 1978 after obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. During his military service, he earned multiple degrees and certifications in computer software. Following his retirement from the Army, he started his own software company before joining CACI, where he worked for more than thirty years as a defense contractor, software developer, and instructor.

Although Daniel enjoyed several hobbies, golf was his true passion. As a teenager growing up in Iowa with no background in golf, he worked at the local course as a caddy, dishwasher, and in any other job he could find, simply to be around people who might give him an opportunity to play. His determination paid off. With an elbow injury that ironically helped his swing, Daniel went on to win numerous tournaments as both a young amateur and an adult.

Music was another important part of Daniel's life and something his children will always remember about him. Along with his love of golf, his appreciation for music became part of the memories his family will carry with them.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Marie; his two daughters, Stephanie Grande and her husband, Rick, of Waynesboro, Bridgette Richardson and her fiancé, Paul Palma, of Raphine; his son, Timothy, and his wife, Lyssa, of Williamsburg; five grandchildren, Samantha, Timothy, Ayden, Alyssa and Brianna; one great-granddaughter, Haven; his two sisters, Barbara Aguilera and her late husband, Dennis, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Debbie Higgins and her husband, Jeff, of Williamston, South Carolina; and his brother, Ron Richardson, and his wife, Cindy, of Pella, Iowa.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, James Erik Richardson.

Daniel will be remembered by his family and friends for his military service, professional accomplishments, love of golf and music, and the lasting memories he created with those closest to him.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with Reverend John Nuzum officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM.
