David J. Carroll

David Jordan Carroll, 85, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at his residence in Verona.

He was born on December 20, 1940, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Rockingham County to the late John Randolph and Margaret Elizabeth Jordan Carroll.

Until becoming bedridden, he faithfully attended Staunton Alliance Church. He was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School and dedicated forty-two years of service to Westinghouse (McQuay).

He never met a stranger and loved talking, sharing stories, gardening, and visiting with friends. Alongside his wife, he opened his home and heart to foster children and spent many years working with the Fresh Air Fund, helping bring children from the New York City area to the local community.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria Dale Carroll whom he married in 1966; his children, Taysha Renee Carroll Simmons (Nathan) of Verona, Aaron David Carroll (Joni) of Cohagen, MT., Gwendolyn Marie Carroll of Verona, and Angela Brinkley (Stephen) of Altavista; his grandchildren, Heather Miles of Verona, Rachel Cancino (Leo) of Grottoes, Sarah B. Simmons of Verona, Ashley McKenzie of Texas, Austin and Alex Lunsford of Altavista, his step grandson, Travis Brinkley of Altavista; his great-grandchildren, Robert Miles, David, Alex and Darla Cancino, Aarlin Wymer, and Zoey McKenzie; his brother-in-law, Vernon Lee of Verona; his two great-nephews, Jonathan and Mark Carroll; and his cherished friends, Harold and Jane Sellers, Sam Lam, Dub Stansberry, Gary Hogan, S.L. Sonifrank, Don Loveless, Dale Fair, and Pam Blair.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, James Randolph Carroll, Sr.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Henry Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Staunton Alliance Church.

Interment will immediately follow at Augusta Stone Church in Fort Defiance, Virginia.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Harold Sellers, Dub Stansberry, Don Loveless, Gary Hogan, S.L. Sonifrank, Mark Carroll, Alex Lunsford, and Austin Lunsford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Lam, Roger Burnett, Jim Ridings, Charles Leach, Dave Murray, Danny Campbell, Marcie Comer, Dale Fair, Lena Fairless, Pam Blair, Susan Williams, and Rosemary Spell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics Area 5 (P.O. Box 1909, Staunton, VA 24402).
