David E. Cullen, Sr.

David Elliott Cullen, Sr., 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at The Barclay at Charlottesville.

He was born on September 12, 1938, in Rockbridge, to the late Lewis Alexander, Sr. and Marjorie Carmen Patterson Cullen.

David enjoyed a career in management with Dominion Virginia Power. Throughout his life, he was devoted to his faith, his family, and serving others.

He was a faithful member of Old Providence Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Steeles Tavern, Virginia where he served the congregation as both an elder and deacon. David was also a member of Masonic Lodge #171 in Covington, a Shriner, and a Gideon.

David had a heart for helping others that extended far beyond his own community. He and his wife, Susan, shared a passion for mission work and traveled abroad together to serve in Wales and Pakistan. They also participated in mission efforts in Mexico, where they helped build homes for families in need.

In his leisure time, David was an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed time spent on the golf course. He loved bluegrass music and dancing all around Augusta and Rockbridge County.

He is survived by his son, David Elliott Cullen, Jr. and his wife, Natalie; his daughter, Kim Cullen Cahoon and her husband, Lee; his grandchildren, Zachary Cullen and his wife, Ashley, Alexander Cullen and his wife, Megan, Wendy Dudding and her husband, Matt, Christopher Cahoon and his wife, Kayla, and Kevin Cahoon and his wife, Kathryn; his great-grandchildren, Ariya, Brantley, and Tucker Cullen and Carrigan, Brea, Cade, Saige, Nathaniel, and Calvin Cahoon; and his special friend, Jean Patton.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Jane Loughhead Cullen; his grandson, David Elliott Cullen, III; his great-grandson, Myles Lee Cahoon; his brothers, Lewis Alexander Cullen, Jr. and William “Butch” Cullen; and his sisters, Marjorie “Babe” Louise Cullen Armentrout and Julie Mae Cullen Patterson.

All services will be private.
