David Tazwell Johnson, Sr., 80, husband of Helen Jane (Maupin) Johnson, died on Monday, January 11, 2021 at his residence.
He was born December 5, 1940 in Middlebrook, son of the late Tazwell “Taz” Vellar and Bessie Elizabeth (Woods) Johnson.
He was the owner/operator of Dave’s Carpet for 50 years.
Dave was a member of Faith Worship Center and a former member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 680.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, family includes his son, David Tazwell Johnson, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa J. and Matthew Moore; brother, Hansford Johnson; two sisters, Ann Johnson and Irene Conner; four grandchildren, Brianna Breeden, Kaylyn Breeden, Campbell Bess Johnson, and Cole Moore and his wife, Heaven; three great grandchildren, Landon Moore, Emberly Moore, Finley Moore, and another grandchild expected soon; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by five brothers, Johnny, Jack, Lynwood, Richard, and Leroy; and seven sisters, Dot, Virginia, Viola, Helen, Lillian, Juanita, and Mary Lee.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021 in the Oak Lawn Mausoleum by Pastor Dennis Bradley, Sr. Covid-19 social distancing protocols will be followed.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Marsha Almarode, Robin Hamilton, Tracy Sanderson, Danie Armstrong, Kathy Anderson and the Staff of Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their loving care.
