David Clifton Whitesell, 77, of Staunton, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Augusta Health Shenandoah House in Fishersville.

He was born on September 30, 1948, in Waynesboro to the late Raymond William and Charlotte Estelle Griffin Whitesell. He is the last member of his immediate family consisting of parents and siblings.

David was a lifelong member of the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad. Outside of his service, David found joy in hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his four children, Reverend David Whitesell II, Penny King, Greg Whitesell, and Robin Winn, all of Staunton; his sister-in-law, Sondra Whitesell; his special friend and the mother of his children, Mary Whitesell; his ten grandchildren and his one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and his fur baby, who has been by his side through it all, Burly.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Hansford Lee and Ward Gay Whitesell; and his sister, Phyllis Darlene Whitesell Gill.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro with his son, Reverend David Whitesell II officiating.

Those wishing to express their condolences directly to the family may visit them at home (23 Hillandale Dive, Staunton, VA 24401).

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family at Henry Funeral Home (P.O. Box 1076, Staunton, VA 24402).
