Dolores Mae Tutwiler, 85, of 55 Riverview Drive in Verona, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Dolores was born on May 1, 1940, in Rockingham County to the late Arnold Paul, Sr. and Mabel Gertrude (Moyers) Tutwiler.
She was a graduate of Middle River High School in Weyers Cave and professionally served for more than four decades as the medical administrator for the office of Dr. Higgs at Staunton Medical Center. Through her work, she was known for her dedication, kindness, and the care she showed to both patients and coworkers. Outside of her career, she found great joy in traveling and had a special love for birds and birdwatching, with cardinals holding a special place in her heart.
Dolores is survived by her sister, Elaine T. Rexrode and her husband, Danny; her brother, A. Paul Tutwiler, Jr. and his wife, Teresa; and a brother-in-law, Jerry W. Miller, Sr. She is also survived by her nieces, Susan P. Hoover (Kim), Alice M. Grow (Albert) and Janet R. Redifer (Shawn); her nephews, Jerry W. Miller, Jr. (Kim), Kevin L. Miller (Dawn), James E. Rexrode, and Andrew P. Tutwiler (Cheryl); two step nieces, Heather F. May (Bobby) and Samantha L. Flynn; her great-nieces, Nina Miller, Katie Armentrout (Cory), Holly Miller, Katherine Redifer, Erin Tutwiler and Ashley Tutwiler; her great-nephews, Thomas Grow (McKenzie), Daniel Redifer and Reid Tutwiler; her great-step niece and nephew, Zoe May and Cohen May; and her great-great-niece and nephews, Carter Grow, Wyatt Grow and Waylon Grow.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Charlsie Miller and Dawn I. Tutwiler; a sister-in-law, Debbie Tutwiler; and a nephew, Charles Tutwiler.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday January 8, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 PM on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Verona United Methodist Church with the Reverends Sean Gundry and Nina Miller officiating.
Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.
The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to all the nurses, aides, and the chaplain of Augusta Health and Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their kindness, care, and friendship – it will never be forgotten.
