Donald L. Southard

Donald “Donnie” Lee Southard, 83, husband of Hedy Louise (Helmick) Southard passed on August 24, 2022. He was born in Staunton on August 6, 1939 to George and Eleanor (Rhodes) Southard.

He graduated from Wilson Memorial, Class of 1956. Mr. Southard served in the Air Force and CIA for a total of 32 years.

Donnie was married to his wife for 61 years and they travelled the world together. After returning, they moved back to Verona.

He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Dana Jacobs; his sister, Sandra Sue Southard; his special cousin, Jerry Scruggs and his parents.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Tom and Linda Southard of Churchville and Danny and Bonnie Southard of Staunton; two granddaughters, Janelle Moore (Jeremy) of Catlett, VA and Stephanie Boyle (Bryant) of Florida; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Jase and Julie; a very special niece, Abby Smith (Jason) and great niece, Ruby; nephew, Andy Southard (Brandy) and great nephew, Deacon; son-in-law, Larry Jacobs of Remington; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Hazel Hisey (Charles) and Carolyn McFaden (Don).

A Graveside Service with military rites will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 29, 2022 in Thornrose Cemetery by Pastor Mike Fitzgerald and Pastor Luke Smith.

Friends may call at Henry Funeral Home between the hours of 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 28, 2022.
