Doris W. Phillips, 89, of North Point School Road, Waynesboro, died Friday, September 30, 2022 at Augusta Health.

She was born August 3, 1933, in Augusta County, daughter of the late Alonzo and Rosila Wills.

She was a graduate of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. She worked in the operating room at the former Kings Daughters Hospital in Staunton, Virginia prior to staying home to “nurse cows” and take care of her family.

Doris was a kind soul and spent her life caring for others. Doris and Harper were true partners in growing North Point Farm as well as in the area of church music.

He was the visionary and she was the detailed planner.

As a teen she was a 4-H all-star winning many awards. She was grounded in her faith and her love of gardening as well as knitting and crocheting. She led the women’s group at church for multiple years, started and led a church crochet group, and led numerous bible studies. She made each of her children and grandchildren a personal afghan with no two alike.

She is survived by her six children, Kevin (Sharon) Phillips of Waynesboro, Dora (Darrell) Brown of Kennesaw GA, Daniel (Donna) Phillips, Winston (Kim) Phillips, Wilmer (Laura) Phillips all of Waynesboro, and Kristen (Brian) Crickenberger of Grottoes; thirteen grandchildren, Byron (Codie) Phillips of Staunton, Kylene (Brandon) Smithkin of Verona, Cassandra (Todd) Hipps of Lovingston, Meredith Brown of Canton, GA, Lauren (Matt) Piper of Marietta, GA, Samantha (John) Benner of Churchville, Andrew Phillips of Waynesboro, Grace (Michael) Dawson and Mark (Hunter) Phillips both of Fort Defiance, Courtney Phillips (Tyler Harvey) of Waynesboro, Caitlin Phillips (Garrett Campbell) of Huntersville, NC, Ashley and Justin Crickenberger both of Grottoes; nine great-grandchildren, Chloe and Savannah Phillips of Staunton, Logan, Dylan and Mackenzie Smithkin of Verona, Madelyn Martin and Gibson Hipps both of Lovingston, Bo Dawson of Fort Defiance, and Evelynn Piper of Marietta, GA; two brothers, Fred Wills of Verona and Larry (Faye) Wills of Weyers Cave; a sister-in-law, Cornelia Wills of Roanoke; a brother-in-law, Thomas Womble of Bridgewater; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harper Phillips; a son, Mark Phillips; a granddaughter, Natalie Phillips; a sister, Anna Lee Lotts; and a brother, Wade Wills.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and other times at North Point Farm.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery, with a memorial service following at 11:00 AM in the church sanctuary.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Sunday School Class at Barren Ridge, Barren Ridge Crochet Group, New Hope Chorus, and lifelong friend, Mary Ann Rubush.
