Doris Marie Nuckols Riley, 80, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at her residence in Mint Spring, surrounded by her husband of 61 years and her children.
She was born on December 15, 1943, in Staunton to the late Robert Roller and Alma Virginia Wright Nuckols.
Doris worked for a short time at Staunton Steam Laundry. She spent her life serving as a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, and a great grandmother. She found great joy in baking pies, especially pumpkin and lemon meringue, as well as canning and birdwatching. She had a passion for planting flowers, gardening, fishing, crafting, and reminiscing over old photos. Above all, Doris deeply loved her family.
She is survived by her husband, Otho Junior Riley; her sons, Dennis Junior Riley and Nancy and Chester Allen Riley and Pam; her daughters, Virginia Marie Riley Pitsenbarger and Mike and Priscilla Ann Riley McMannes; her grandchildren, Little Chester Allen Riley, II, DJ Riley, II and Jessica, Justin Riley, Cheyenne Dollarhite and Anthony, Andrew Dollarhite, Skyler Herron and Olivia; her step-grandchildren, Becky Tamez and her husband Pete and Stacey McMannes; her great grandchildren, Jaxson, Jameson, Blakely, and Makenna and her step-great grandchildren, Sophara, Juna and Kalor Tamez.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Roller Nuckols, Jr., and Paul Randolph; her sisters, Juanita Virginia Nuckols Chandler, and Nathalie Maxine Nuckols Duty; and a son-in-law, Patrick McMannes.
The family is deeply grateful to the devoted caregivers, Regene, Sherry, Vickey, and Tammy. The family would also like to thank the late Dr. Lynn Moore and Dr. John Marsh, the staff at Connections Plus, Healthcare Plus Hospice, and Kindred Hospice for their years of dedicated and thoughtful care throughout the years.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Hall officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Greenville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons as well as Wayne Troyer and Turtle Riley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Pitsenbarger, Joe Riley, and Anthony Brown.
