Dorothea Ann “Dottie”/ “Dot” Buchanan, of McKinley Road, Middlebrook, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Dottie was born February 8, 1958, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of Mavis Lee (Coffey) Fitzgerald and the late Charlie R. Fitzgerald.
In addition to her husband of 44 years and her mother, Dottie is survived by a daughter, Amanda Shipp and husband, Michael, of Middlebrook; a sister, Frieda, of Greenville; and a special beloved little girl, Devyn, who considers Dottie “Mawmaw”. She will be greatly missed by these as well as by many friends, cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Melissa Fitzgerald; a brother, C.R. Fitzgerald; by special grandparents “Granny”, Myra Helen (Holly), and “Granddaddy”, James Willard Coffey; and by a favorite uncle, Kenneth Fitzgerald.
Dot attended Middlebrook Church of God. She was a homemaker, and avid reader, and enjoyed talking with friends and family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home by the Rev. Larry Strickler and Brother Eddie Godbey. Burial will follow in Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Charlie Clark, Billy Strickler, Sonny Fitzgerald, Jay Strickler, Jay Coleman, H.A. Buchanan, Aaron Coleman, and Dwight Strickler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Buchanan, Timmy Buchanan, Andy Buchanan, Philip Jordan, and Greg Strickler.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2021, in the Henry Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
