Dorothy C. Smiley

Dorothy Lorraine Clark Smiley, 81, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at her residence in Greenville.

She was born on July 6, 1945, in Rockbridge to the late Herbert and Agnes Etta Clark.

Dorothy found her greatest joy in her faith in Jesus Christ and in the family, she loved so dearly. She lived her life with a kind and compassionate heart and treasured simply being surrounded by those she loved.

A devoted homemaker, Dorothy took great pride in caring for her home and family. Her family was always at the center of her life, and she found great happiness in creating a warm and loving home for them.

Dorothy also had a love for gardening and enjoyed the time she spent tending to her plants and flowers.

She is survived by her daughters Janice Smiley Cash (Benny) of Greenville and Wanda Kay Burns (David) of Greenville; and her two sisters, Helen M. Clark Norcross and Shirley Clark Berry.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Walker Smiley, Sr.; her son, Clyde Walker Smiley, Jr.; and her son-in-law, Murphy Cash.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Steeles Tavern with Pastor Rick Ramsey officiating.

Friends may call the family Starting Wednesday afternoon up until the service to offer their condolences or visit the funeral home during regular business hours to sign the register book and pay their respects.
