On Monday, December 17, 2018, Edward Armistead Marvin Belden, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 85. Marv was born February 12, 1933 in Cleveland Ohio, to Francis Edward and Emily Arthur Belden. A member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, he graduated from Wittenberg University in 1955 with a degree in Business Administration and Economics. It was at Wittenberg that he met Margaret Wagenheim, whom he wed on June 25, 1955. They raised a daughter, Elizabeth. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army, Marv worked for American Airlines before joining the staff of the US Department of Commerce where, during his 37 years, he served as an international marketing executive both overseas and in Washington, DC. He shared a passion for historic preservation with his wife and over their 63-year marriage restored five homes in Alexandria, Falls Church, and Staunton, VA. He also enjoyed jogging and golf. Marv is survived by his wife, Peg and his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Prewitt Scripps, of Staunton, and his sister Louise Belden Miner of San Antonio, TX. A lifelong Episcopalian, he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton where a Celebration of His Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the church, designated for historic preservation.
