Listen to Obituary

Edith Ramsey Gilbertt, 94, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House in Fishersville.

Edith was born to the late Robert and Dora Ramsey in Buena Vista and was one of eight siblings.

She was a strong, independent, and loving woman whose greatest gift was the love she gave so freely to others. Family was at the heart of Edith’s life, and she shared a particularly special bond with her many nieces and nephews. She was always there with love, comfort, guidance, and a listening ear. Edith had a special way of making everyone around her feel welcomed, cared for, and loved.

Edith moved to St. Louis, Missouri to be closer to her sister, where she met and married her late husband, Joe Gilbertt. Her years in St. Louis brought many wonderful memories and also sparked her lifelong love of Clydesdales and baseball. Edith became a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved attending games whenever she could. She enjoyed watching the Cardinals play and cheering them on which was a love she carried with her long after she returned to Virginia. Even from home, she faithfully watched the games and remained one of their biggest fans.

Edith was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained active in her church throughout her life. Her faith was a deeply meaningful part of who she was, and her relationship with God provided strength and guidance throughout her life. She cherished the friendships and fellowship she found within her church community and held those connections close to her heart.

Edith had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. She loved spending time in her garden, where geraniums were among her favorite flowers along with keeping an eye out for her favorite birds - hummingbirds and red cardinals. Her home was often surrounded by beautiful blooms, a reflection of the care and devotion she gave to everything she touched. Music brought her happiness as well, and she especially enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra and the Eagles. She and her husband, Joe, also shared a love of dancing and made it a special part of their lives, enjoying their weekly dances together.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Gilbertt; her parents, Robert and Dora Ramsey; and her siblings, Opal Wallace, Helen Klotzer, Dean Ramsey, Johnny Ramsey, Mert Ramsey, Renzy Ramsey, and Robert Ramsey.

Edith’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, faith, and the memories she created with those around her will remain forever.

A funeral service honoring the life of Edith Gilbertt will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 2825 Jefferson Lane, Waynesboro VA 22980.
