Edith Shrader Reynolds, 97, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah in Fishersville.
She was born on December 24, 1928, in Hayter Gap, Virginia to the late William Ernest and Hassie Lee Counts Shrader.
Edith was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Staunton. She retired from Western State Hospital after thirty-two years of dedicated service as a Psychiatric Aide. During her career, she was honored as Employee of the Year in 1986 and was recognized for her exceptional attendance, retiring with more than 3,000 hours of accrued sick leave.
She was an outstanding cook who enjoyed reading, crocheting beautiful Christmas ornaments and Afghans, and making delicious homemade Christmas candy. She also loved listening to country and gospel music. Whatever she set out to do, she pursued with great care and attention to detail, always striving for perfection.
She is survived by her sons, Tony M. Reynolds and Steven Mark Reynolds; her daughter-in-law, Nancy K. Reynolds; her sister-in-law, Violet Shrader; four grandchildren, two great granddaughters, one great-great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Wiley Severe Reynolds; her sons, David Eugene Reynolds and Garry Lee Reynolds; her brother, Ernest “Junior” Shrader, Jr.; and her sisters, Erma Lee Haynes and Phyllis Browning.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro with Reverend John K. Craft officiating.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to her special neighbors, dear friends, and the compassionate staff of Shenandoah House for the kindness, care, and support they showed her throughout the years. Their love and dedication meant so much to her and her family.
