ELIZABETH S. ANDES STAUNTON, VA Elizabeth (Stogdale) "Libby" Andes, 94, widow of James M. Andes passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012. She was born in Staunton on September 28, 1917, the daughter of the late William W. and Estelle (Potter) Stogdale. Libby was a 1936 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. She was a charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where she taught the Ed Brant Sunday School class and was active in the women of the Church and served as Elder. She enjoyed playing her piano, square dancing, working crossword puzzles, sewing, and spending time with family and friends. Prior to retirement she was employed by American Safety Razor. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha A. and Paul Vames; three grandchildren, Geoffrey Vames and wife, Amy, Christopher Vames and wife, Carolyn, and Angela V. Sutton and husband, Matt, all of Staunton; five great grandchildren, Justin, Christian, and Jaden Vames, and Hannah and Madilyn Sutton; one sister-in-law, Anne Stogdale and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Madeline Rose Stogdale as an infant, Kathleen Carter, Eunice Mays, and Jean McCord; three brothers, Lacy, Kenneth, and Bill Stogdale. Libby is the last member of her immediate family. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Bethany Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lester LaPrade officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 2501 Fifth Street, Staunton, VA 24401 Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. (
