Elizabeth (Liz) Erskine Leichliter, 44, of Staunton finished her journey on earth on November 30, 2021. She was born in Staunton at Kings Daughter’s Hospital on August 5, 1977, daughter of Elizabeth C. and B. Wayne Erskine.
She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and then went on to Radford University where she earned a bachelor’s in education. She followed her passion for teaching in the elementary and special education school setting. Liz emphasized not only learning in the classroom but also kindness and compassion.
Liz was blessed with two children, Lyla Elizabeth Pierce (13) and Tate Alexander Pierce (12). On July 24, 2021, Liz married Jim Leichliter and his and their love for each other was nothing short of extraordinary.
In addition to her husband, parents, and children, she is survived by her brothers, Benjamin C. Erskine and Alexander (Zan) M. Erskine.
Liz enjoyed spending time with her family, hiking in nature, and of course teaching. Later in life, she found a true passion for fitness and could often be seen running around town, no matter what the weather was like outside. She was an inspiration to her family and members of her gym who always found it hard to match her endurance.
A memorial service will be held at the Church on the Hill in Fishersville on December 3, 2021 at 1PM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Lyla and Tate’s Virginia 529 college savings funds and, thus, honoring Liz’s life as a career educator. While Liz’s soul has moved on, her spirit and resilience will live on in the lives of the people she touched.
