Ellen Marie Mace Anderson, 97, widow of William Gerald “Bill” Anderson, passed away on Sunday April 9, 2023 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg.
Ellen was born on July 3, 1925 in Rockingham County to the late John Jacob and Laura Nannie Roadcap Mace.
Ellen lived a life filled with family, friends and church. She was a faithful charter member of the Mallory Miracles, a bible study group of twenty-five years. She was the second youngest of eleven children and the last to pass away, leaving behind a 145-year-old Mace legacy. Ellen was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, a friend, and a Sabbath school teacher. She loved nature and working with her hands.
She is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce Anderson Bartley of Staunton and Kathy (Anderson) and Michael Lacey of Staunton; four grandchildren, Jon C. Dalton, Amy E. Wease, Aaron D. Dalton, Lynn D. Wease II “Chip”, and his wife, Kimberly E. Field; five great-grandchildren, Sofia M. Dalton, Lily E. Dalton, Tyler E. Wease, Ava L. Wease, and Vivien E. Wease; and a number of very special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her loving husband to whom she was married on July 3, 1946, she is preceded in death by her brothers, John Henry Mace, Elzia “Son” Mace, Elbert Nelson and Herman Leon Mace and her sisters, Margaret Mace Hammer, Ruby Martin, Verta Sherburn, Carrie Morris, Mary Edwards and Roxie Mace Hevener.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Henry Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Friday April 14, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Henry Funeral Home with the Pastor Roger Mace, her nephew, and Pastor Sifa Pontuaine, officiating.
