Eugene “Gene” Wilson Rowe, 89, husband of Patricia Tyler Rowe, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Augusta Health Shenandoah House.
He was born on September 16, 1936, in Augusta County to the late John Clyde and Frances Elizabeth Bailey Rowe.
Gene proudly served his country for four years in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. He first served two years overseas then two years were spent with the U. S. Navy Ceremonial Guard at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Following his military service, Gene devoted thirty-five years to Huger-Davidson Wholesale Corporation, where he served as the Senior Vice President.
Gene was a faithful member of Staunton Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Staunton and a lifetime member of VFW Post 2216.
He never met a stranger and was known for always welcoming people with a handshake.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Bethaney Rowe Chadwell and her husband, Joseph of Staunton; his grandchildren, Erik Joseph Chadwell and his wife, Sarah of Richmond and Alexis Paige Chadwell and her fiancé, Robbie Tuosto of Asheville, North Carolina; his sisters-in-law, Ann Rowe of Staunton, Beverly Dewell of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, Kaye Jackson of Sterling, and Judy Everist of Fairfield; two special nieces, Kim Hassett Poole and Sharon Jackson; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Benjamin Clyde Rowe and James Henry Rowe.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens with Pastor Ethan Allison officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy.
There is no public viewing. Friends may call the residence anytime.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Staunton Orthodox Presbyterian Church (17 Berry Farm Road, Staunton, VA 24401) or Hospice of the Shenandoah (c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939).
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Augusta Health and Hospice of the Shenandoah for their compassion and care over the past few weeks.
