Everett "Wade" Burks, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, Virginia.

He was a US Army Veteran, a retiree of AT&T, and for many years lived in Greenville where he co-owned the original Greenville Grocery with his wife.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Davis Burks and Hollie Lynn Burks of Big Island, VA, and two brothers, Elwood Burks and Howell Burks.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carol; two daughters, Tracy Burks Healy of Portsmouth, RI, and Sherry Monique Burks of Fairport, NY; and a son, Kevin Wade Burks of Leesburg, VA; three granddaughters, Caroline Yancey Gresham and her husband, Will, Mary Margaret Yancey, and Ella Kathleen Burks; two grandsons, Ryan Edward Cimo and Parker William Cimo; and a newborn great-grandson, Graham Cimo; two brothers, Jessie Lynn Burks and Glenn Burks and his wife, Phyllis; two sisters, Martha Burks and Deborah Burks Getz; and many nieces and nephews.

Born March 29, 1940, he was the eldest of seven children. He was an avid outdoorsman, where being in nature made him feel closer to God. Other than being with and caring for his family, his favorite things to do were hunting and fishing. He was mechanically skilled and gifted and could build and repair almost anything.

Wade was a remarkable individual whose kindness was his greatest quality, and he touched the lives of countless people with his generosity and compassion. His innate ability to make everyone feel special earned him many friends. His legacy is a testament to his kindness and the profound impact it had on those lucky enough to know him.

We will all miss you Wade, Dad, Granddaddy, but we will see you again. So, in the meantime, don't worry, we will be taking care of each other.

Many thanks to all the hands-on caregivers at the VVCC and a special thanks to his special caregivers and family friends, Tina Coleman and Allen Lee.

A private graveside service for his wife, children, and grandchildren was held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 1:00 PM and the interment was at the Greenville United Methodist Church in Greenville, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) (2381 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, VA 24153) to honor him.
