It is with deep love and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of Franklin (Buddy) D. Lancaster, who left us peacefully at the age of 84. He lived a long, full life marked by kindness, resilience, and a sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest day.
He was born on November 26, 1940, in Bent Mountain, VA, Buddy was a storyteller, a jokester, and the kind of man who could make a room laugh with just a glance. His wit was quick, his timing flawless, and his laughter unforgettable. Whether it was a clever pun, a mischievous grin, or a perfectly timed one-liner, he had a rare gift for finding humor in everyday moments.
He was also an exceptionally skilled woodworker. With steady hands and a creative eye, he could transform a simple block of wood into something beautiful and enduring. His workshop was his sanctuary, filled with the scent of sawdust and the quiet rhythm of contentment. Many of us are fortunate to have one of his handcrafted pieces in our homes — furniture, toys, or keepsakes — each one a reflection of his talent, patience, and love.
But Buddy was more than his jokes and his craft. He was a devoted husband, a guiding father, a loyal friend, and a steady, reassuring presence in the lives of all who knew him. His love was unconditional, his advice sincere, and his presence a source of comfort.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lancaster; his children, Edwin (Susan) Lancaster and Amy Lancaster; and his grandchildren, Caroline Lancaster and Jameson Lancaster, who will forever cherish his warmth, wisdom, and wonderfully corny jokes.
In his honor, we invite you to smile a little more today, share a story that brings laughter, or run your hand along a piece of wood and appreciate the beauty in simple things — he always did.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bonsack United Methodist Church, 4493 Bonsack Rd. NE, Roanoke, Virginia 24012.
