George Thomas Savage, Jr., 79, husband of Lannette “Nan” Lee (Keister) Savage, passed away on January 7, 2023, at UVA Medical Center.
George graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Campbell College in North Carolina. He was a teacher at Beverley Manor Elementary School and Beverley Manor Middle School for close to 38 years.
George was born on February 6, 1943, in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late George Thomas, Sr. and Kathryn Elizabeth Ruark Savage.
George was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served in numerous positions, including deacon and head of the medical team. He was a lifetime member of the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad. He was very active in the community, helping with the Wheelchair Games for over twenty years and Camp Dragonfly. Mr. Savage also loved running in his younger years.
In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, he is survived by his sons, George Thomas Savage, III and his wife, Kim and Timothy Lee Savage and his fiancée, Lori Johnson; his daughters, Susan Lannette Savage and Emily Marie Savage Loan and her husband, Doug; five grandchildren, Matthew Thomas Savage, Tyler Lee Savage, Samantha Savage, Kaitlyn Savage, and Sarah Reynolds and her husband, Clint; and his special dog, Ivy Lynn.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastors Bobby Campbell and Bob Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Celebration of Life at Calvary Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.
