Gladys M. Houser

Gladys Lee Moomau Houser, 91, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

She was born on August 1, 1932, in Greenville, to the late Charlie Mason and Ethel Thomas Daugherty Moomau.

Gladys had a passion for crocheting and reading. She found great joy in creating things as well as the inspiration she found within the pages of the books she read. Yet, her greatest joy was found in her family, especially her beloved kids and grandkids who were her pride and joy. She enjoyed visiting the beach, especially Myrtle Beach which held a special place in her heart. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Staunton where she was involved in the Eskew Bates Circle and the elective Sunday school class.

She is survived by her two sons, Lyle Wilton Houser, Jr. (Cheryl) and Donald Ray Houser (Wanda); a daughter, Rebecca Darlene Houser Wood (JW); her sons fiancé, Nancy Knott; her grandchildren, Adam Houser, Erik Houser, Dr. Kerri Houser (Rusty), Leigh Ann Gregory (Brandon), Daniel Houser (Courtney), Casey Houser (Charlie), Dr. Joseph Wood, Jr. (Hannah) and Joshua Wood; her great grandchildren, Madison Eavey, Addison and Ainsley Gregory, Deacon and Avery Houser, Alaina, Charles and Athena Riner and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lyle Wilton Houser, Sr.; her son, Kenneth Wayne Houser; her siblings, Franklin Delano Moomau, Hazel Daugherty Moomau Via, Mason Henry Moomau, Florence Jane Moomau Via, Wallace Bell Moomau, Sr., Leona Thomas Moomau Davis, and Melvin Crawford Moomau.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church. 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Christ United Methodist Church with the Reverend Madison Long Ailinger officiating. 

Interment will immediately follow at Thornrose Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Houser, Brandon Gregory, Dr. Joseph Wood, Jr., Joshua Wood, Rusty Starks, Erik Houser, Charlie Riner and Adam Houser.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church memorial fund (1512 Churchville Ave., Staunton, Virginia 24401).
