Herman Junior Johnson, 88, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Augusta Health Shenandoah House in Fishersville.

He was born on June 14, 1937, in Staunton to the late William McKinley, Sr. and Icy Mines Sprouse Johnson.

Herman served as a manager with a tire company, where his dedication and work ethic were well known.

Outside of work, he was a true outdoorsman, he loved camping trips and could often be found building, painting, and tinkering with golf carts. His happiest moments, however, were spent with his family, whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Nancy Louise Jordan Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Herman Lee Johnson; his brothers, William McKinley, Jr., Harry Preston, Frank Lynwood, Sr., Harold “Hank” Hankins, Austin Chestine, Hallie “Rocky” Hansford, and Roy Lee Johnson; and his sisters, Nancy Mines Johnson Hess, Hazel Christen Johnson Knight, Louise Virginia Johnson Powers, Bertie Alene Johnson Hamilton, Dorothy Bell Johnson Hodge, and Juanita Frances Johnson Brooks.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Maryland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939).
