Irene Lavinia Johnson Lawhorne, 87, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.
She was born on July 21, 1937, in Augusta County to the late Theodore Roosevelt and Annie Cleo Coffey Johnson.
Irene lived a life rooted in compassion and care, dedicating her career to being a private caregiver. Irene had a remarkable ability to bring comfort and support to those who needed it most.
Irene was an active member of Good News Ministries in Augusta County and her love for people gave her great joy in serving as a church greeter.
She is survived by her sons, James David Lawhorne and his wife, Anna Lee and Steven Lawrence; her daughters, Lavinia Elaine Lawhorne Valerio and her husband, Joe, and Tammy Renee Lawhorne Boney and her husband, Jeff; and her sisters, Dorothy Ann Johnson Serrett Arey and Geneva Ruth Johnson Asbury; and numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lawhorne; her son, Kenneth Wayne Lawhorne; her daughter, Rebecca Ruth Lawhorne Hudnall; her brother, Alfred Lee Johnson and Rodney Theodore Johnson; and her sisters, Marie Catherine Johnson Hartman, Linda Dale Johnson, and Donna Kay Johnson Swisher; and her grandson, Daniel Hudnall
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Good News Ministries Church in Staunton with Pastors Wanda Myers and Steven L. Lawhorne officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be private at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939).
