Jack L. Weiss

Jack Layne Weiss, 81, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at River Edge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Waynesboro.

He was born on July 13, 1944, in Harrisonburg to the late George Linhoss and Reba Lynn Cupp Weiss.

From a young age Jack was an outstanding athlete at Wilson Memorial High School, where he stood out as a talented athlete in both baseball and basketball. His skills led him to play for the Staunton Braves, where he was the youngest player on the team.

Jack had a deep love for sports, especially cheering for the Washington Redskins and the UVA Cavaliers.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Karen L. Weiss; his children, Phillip Birt (Cindy), Steve Weiss (Elizabeth), and Mary Bradley (Shannon Wine); his brother, Richard Weiss (Dawn); his sister, Judy Rexrode (Danny); ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bill Weiss; and a half-brother, Roland Wease.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Cherryvale Church in Staunton with Reverend Jonathan Greer officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Henry Funeral Home.
