James W. Dewhurst

James William Dewhurst, 96, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House in Fishersville.

He was born on May 6, 1929, in Pomeroy, Ohio, to the late Clifford Emerson and Genevieve Cheatham Dewhurst.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that reflected the values he carried throughout his life.

Following his military service, he worked for many years on the machine line at DuPont in Waynesboro.

He was a loyal Ohio State fan and enjoyed watching baseball. A familiar face at his local Shell station, he could often be found there with a cup of black coffee.

Above all else, family came first. He cared deeply for those he loved and remained a steady presence in their lives. He shared a strong bond with his faithful dog, “Buddy”, who was rarely far from his side.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Todd Dewhurst and his wife, Sonya; his grandchildren, Jamie Dewhurst (Alexis) and Raylene Dewhurst; and Chelsea Lembo and Allysa Khouri (Marcus); and his great-grandson, James Dewhurst.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Jean Dewhurst; his brothers, David Ray, Thomas Arthur, and Harold Eugene Dewhurst; his half-brothers, Carl, Charles, and Richard Dewhurst and Chuck Withee; and his half-sisters, Nellie and Grace Dewhurst, Vivian Smith, Helen Porter, and Bernice Withee.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Pines Chapel Presbyterian Church in Greenville.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Pines Chapel Presbyterian Church with Pastor Derek Almarode officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at Pines Chapel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin and Jamie Dewhurst, Wayne Gordon, Terry Argenbright, Joe Fauber, and Allan Powers.

All are welcome to join the family for a meal at the church following the burial.
