Jay Curtis Jeffreys

Jay Curtis Jeffreys, 69, husband of Lucie Ludwig Jeffreys, made his journey home on April 14, 2022.

Mr. Jeffreys was born on July 17, 1952 in Galveston, Texas to the late Dr. Alvis Waldo and Virginia Lois Jeffreys.

Jay received his bachelor's degree from Bridgewater College and Masters Degree from Tennessee Technological Institute. He was a wildlife biologist for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for 35 years. He formed so many meaningful friendships over the years at the game department and will be dearly missed by them all.

Jay was an avid outdoorsman and lover of nature, knowing the Latin name for every tree in the forest. He was a first-class hunter and fisherman, all of his life. He loved music, movies, reading, and dancing and he passed this love on to his children and grandchildren.

Jay was a man of unlimited generosity, compassion, wisdom, and kindness. Most of all, he was the best husband, father, and grandfather that a family could ever dream of. He was also a best friend to so many others. His beloved friends will always carry his spirit out into the woods for the next hunt.

Jay never met a stranger, and anyone he met walked away as a friend. Above all else, Jay was the living embodiment of "The Golden Rule." He always put others before himself and had an overabundance of love for his fellow man. There was not a day in his life that he didn't go out into the world with a smile on his face and love in his heart. He gave that love to everyone that he met in life, whether it be the cashier in the checkout line at the grocery store or the waitress at a restaurant. He treated everyone as if they were incredibly special and loved no matter their station in life, because he knew this to be the truth.

Jay's legacy of living life to the fullest and Loving others will never die, he will Live in our hearts Forever. Carpe Diem Jay Bird!

Jay is survived by his wife of 45 years Lucie Lloyd Ludwig Jeffreys, and his children Kathryn Kyle Jeffreys (Chris Maher), Sarah Adelaide Russell (Bill Russell); grandchildren Jonathan Lee Russell, Joseph Jay Russell; sister Jan Jeffreys Painter (Eddie Painter); nieces Emily Kaye, Katie Falk; cousin/brother George DeCardenas, cousin/brother Darcy Echols; and beloved dogs Scout and Dobby.
