Jean Waller Nooe Miller, 92, of Waynesboro, died on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at her home in Summit Square Retirement Community in Waynesboro.
She was born in Harrodsburg, KY on April 17, 1934, the daughter of the late Ansel Jewell and Mary Anna Revercomb Nooe.
Jean graduated from Randolph Macon Women’s College in 1956. She was a retired teacher and taught math at Kate Collins Middle School for many years. She was part of the amazing Women of the Church from Hebron Presbyterian Church in Staunton and volunteered for the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for more than twenty years. She especially loved working with the hospice’s Camp Dragonfly. She and her husband, “Doc”, lived in Wilmington, DE, Waynesboro, and Kinston, NC, and they lived on a farm in Swoope for more than forty years. In all those places, Jean cultivated friendships that have lasted generations. One of her favorite places to spend time with her family and friends was the farm on the Cowpasture River called Wiggum.
She is survived by her sons, Richard M Miller and his wife, Suzanne, of Catawba and Allen Scott Miller of Swoope; her daughter, Carolyn King Bone and her husband, John, of Mt. Airy, GA; a sister, Elizabeth “Bizzy” Hulette of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Gloria Ann Miller of Wyomissing, PA; and many nephews, nieces, and grandnephews and nieces; and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-four years, Richard A “Doc” Miller, and her daughter, Elizabeth Holladay Miller Clingempeel.
The family would like to especially thank the caregivers at Summit Square and her special friend, Dana Ailer Chron, for their love and support.
A memorial service at Hebron Presbyterian Church in Staunton will be announced in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (Augusta Health, Attn: Augusta Health Foundation, PO Box 909, Fishersville, VA 22939).
