John M. Cordle

John M. Cordle, 82, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Harrisonburg.

He was born on May 3, 1944, in Richlands, Virginia to the late John William and Mary Emma Meadows Cordle.

John enjoyed a long career of over thirty years with Norfolk Southern Railway, where he worked as Manager of Coal Transportation.

Outside of work, he maintained an active and athletic lifestyle. He particularly enjoyed playing golf and racquetball. John had a great appreciation for music and enjoyed listening to a wide variety of genres. He was a member of the Staunton Virginia Elks Lodge #351.

Among John’s greatest joys was supporting his family. He especially loved watching his great-nephews play basketball and took tremendous pride in cheering them on from the sidelines.

He is survived by his wife, Ginger Carter Cordle; and his sisters, Sandra Cordle Hill and Mary “Beth” Elizabeth Cordle Somers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his companion, Scrappy the Cat.
