John "JC" C. Folk

John “JC” Calvin Folk, 81, of Staunton, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.

He was born in Staunton on February 20, 1945, a son of the late Ernest and Edna Virginia Jordan Folk.

JC was a proud Eagle Scout and he also had a gift for helping things grow. With his green thumb, he tended trees, flowers, vegetable gardens, and everything in between. He was also a big NASCAR fan. He especially cheered for David Pearson in the #21 car, though he had room for just about anyone good enough to drive for the Wood Brothers.

As one of the area’s most respected and revered Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coaches, he helped young players grow in confidence and character. The thirty-seven first place trophies he earned speak to his success on the field, but the countless children who looked up to him are a greater measure of the difference he made.

The love and commitment JC gave to the children he coached ran even deeper at home. He poured himself into his children and his beloved grandchildren. For his grandchildren, he made a point of being there for every game, performance, and recital. They could always count on seeing him in the crowd, proud of them and cheering them on.

In his later years, JC enjoyed the company of the self-proclaimed ROMEOs - the “Retired Old Men Eating Out Club.” Around the table with that close-knit group of friends, he made many happy memories.

He is survived by his children, James “Eddie” Edward Folk (Bobbi), Oleevia Ann Folk Nuckoles (Randy), David Henley Folk (Heather), and Curtis Aaron Folk (Sarah); his grandchildren, Christina Reed (Matt), Tawny Folk, Cheyenne Folk, Jerod Folk (Kate), Dakota deVore (Maya), Montana deVore, Jeda Swaine (Dustin), Maia Folk, Ella Folk, Sara Folk, Poppy Folk, Cora Mae Folk, Kiki Folk, Jaxon Folk, and Kellen Folk; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas Reed, Christopher Reed, Symphony deVore, Drè Swaine, and Zola Swaine; and his sisters, Fonda Lee Folk Anderson, Leeta Ernestine Folk Hiner, Jeris Ermae Folk Cassel, and Brenda Carol Folk.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverley Ann Cash Folk; a great-granddaughter, Maiya Nicole Reed; a brother, Ernest Muzon Folk; and his sisters, Edna Eugenia Folk Norskog and Shelia Punetta Folk Fox.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.

A funeral service will be conducted on 1:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2026, also at Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Campbell officiating.

Interment at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Serving as pallbearers will be JC’s sons, grandsons, and son-in-law. Chris Brown and Stephen Huffman, Sr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
