Listen to Obituary

John Curtis Parrott, 46, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on January 29, 1980, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

John is survived by his wife, Jessica and children, Emmanuel, Randall, Maxwell, and Emily; his mother, Susan Parrott; his brother, Quay William Parrott III and his wife, Amy, and their children, Will, Sam, Jack, and Maggie; and his sister, Elizabeth Parrott.

He is also survived by his uncles, John M. Parrott (Marilyn), David Parrott (Donna), and Thomas Parrott; his aunts, Mary Ewing (Gifford) and Kathryn Bryant; his stepsiblings, Suzanne Myrick (Jacob) and Jason Parrott; his stepmother, Norma Parrott, and her children, Renee and Lizette; as well as many cousins and extended family members.

John graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in sociology and religion. He loved music, playing the guitar, Georgia football (Go Dawgs!), movies, podcasts, his family, and his cats.

After years in Atlanta, John moved to Staunton, where he joined his older brother at Parrott Orthodontics as Financial Manager. His coworkers described him as "the light of the office ... kind beyond measure, deeply compassionate, incredibly generous, and someone who could always make you smile." They shared that he had a remarkable way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for. "John wore countless hats behind the scenes, and because of him, the office ran with a level of care and excellence that can never truly be replaced. So much of what John did happened quietly, never seeking recognition, simply because that is who he was. His selflessness, strength, and unwavering kindness left an imprint on all who knew him."

John was preceded in death by his father, Quay Parrott Jr.; his aunts, Cornelia Bryant and Sally Zdanwic; and his stepfather, Dale Parrott.

A service for family and local friends will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton on Tuesday, July 28, at 6:00 p.m. A Celebration of John's Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929), the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center at the University of Virginia (1240 Lee Street, Charlottesville, VA 22908), or to the charity of your choice.
