STAUNTON - John Kenneth “Kenny” Quick, 75, husband of Yvonne Hunter Quick, passed away on April 17, 2022 at his home.
John was born on October 16, 1946 in Marlinton, WV to the late John Gilmer and Betty Jean (Stuart) Quick. John graduated from Marlinton High School in 1966.
John served his country in the Army (5th Corps Artillery) and the National Guard. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 13. He was a member of Jerusalem Chapel UB Church.
He retired from the Staunton Correctional Center where he worked for 24 years and Augusta Health for 15 years.
John loved hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp in West Augusta. You could always find him at a local auction, but John was most proud of his numerous gardens every year that he diligently cared for. He was known to have planted more than 400+ tomato plants, which he was proud of. When asked why so many, the response was typically “so I can watch em’ grow”. He was also known at the West Beverley Farmers Market as the “Tomato Man”. John was never shy to pull a good prank or two on his family and friends or tell a good story.
In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, he is survived by two sons and their spouses, K. Douglas and Catherine Quick of Durham, NC and Kevin and Britta Quick of Glen Allen, VA; daughter and her spouse, Lori and Mike Hudson of Mt. Sterling, KY; stepdaughter and her spouse, Sherri and Kevin Roadcap of Staunton, VA; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Christian Quick, Andrew Quick, Sydney Quick, Brayden Quick, Dustin Campbell, Sierra and Ryan Powers, William Hudson, Kasey Hudson, Alye and David Luchard, Andy Roadcap, Abby Roadcap and Alayna Roadcap; five great-grandchildren, Brielle Campbell, Quinley and Coleson Powers, Calye and Olivia Luchard; a loving and supportive brother, Steve Quick and companion Somers Knight of Millboro, VA; nephew, Steven Quick; very special friends, Carl Chastain and Nancy Brown; as well as numerous cousins and other good friends; and his faithful companions, Sylvester and Browne – their cats.
