Johnnie Gibbs Anderson, 72, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at his residence in Staunton.
He was born on November 16, 1952, in Farmville, Virginia to the late Gunhild “G” Amanda and Laurence Gibbs Anderson, Jr.
Johnnie dedicated much of his life to the field of technology and service to others.
Johnnie earned his master’s degree in computer science. He spent his professional career as a computer programmer for Stillwater Industries, where his passion for technology were deeply valued. Beyond his technical skills, Johnnie took great joy in teaching others about computers. He taught elementary, high school, and even at college level having taught for over twenty years.
In addition to his professional achievements, Johnnie was an active member within the community. He was an enthusiastic softball player, embracing his role as catcher. His love for crafting shone through in the handmade gifts he created for others, a testament to his creativity and thoughtfulness.
Johnnie’s pride in his home shone through in the meticulous care he gave his yard, which he maintained with unwavering dedication. He found true joy in the great outdoors, especially when camping with family and friends. His deep love for family also shone through in his role as a driver for the Turner Ashby sports teams, where he supported and encouraged young athletes.
A devoted member of the Third Presbyterian Church in Staunton, Johnnie served on the church session and was a member of the Celebration Choir. He took great pleasure in singing alongside fellow choir members, enriching the worship experience for all.
He is survived by his wife Sheryl Denny Joyce Anderson; his daughter, Nicole Jordan Tuzzolino and her husband, Paul; his grandson, Michael Tuzzolino: his brother, Larry Anderson and his wife, Mollie; his brother-in-law, Jerry Swisher, Jr. and his wife, Donna; his sister-in-law, Lisa Falls and her husband, Robbie; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with Reverends Jocob Singleton and Rusty Marshall officiating.
Interment will follow at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Third Presbyterian Church (1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, VA 24401) or 5th Street United Brethren Church (409 G Street, Staunton, VA 24401).
