Johnny Brown Lawhorne, 69, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born on June 14, 1956, in Albemarle County, to the late Edward Brown and Dolly Everett Cooke Lawhorne and his life was marked by devotion to his family and a passion for the outdoors.
Growing up, he was a graduate of Staunton Military Academy and professionally, he was a dedicated supervisor for UPS.
Johnny's love for nature was unparalleled; he found immense joy in hunting and fishing, fully embracing his identity as a true outdoorsman. Those who knew him appreciated his sense of humor; he was a very funny guy who never missed an opportunity to share a good joke. His enthusiasm for life was evident in his hobbies as well - he was a master gardener, known for being particularly methodical and meticulous.
At the heart of Johnny's world were his grandbabies. He cherished them deeply, and they brought him constant joy.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife of nineteen happy years, Patricia Ann Taylor Lawhorne, his sons, Damian Lawhorne and his wife, Miranda, and Jonathan Lawhorne and his children; his grandchildren, Walker, Lorelai, and Hunter Lawhorne and his soon-to-arrive granddaughter, Madelyn Lawhorne.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepchildren Christopher Graves and Jennifer Whitlock.
A memorial service at the Church of the Blue Ridge in Afton will be scheduled at a later date.
