Katherine “Kathy” Robbins Powell, 62, of Staunton, Virginia fell asleep in death at her home, with her family by her side, on Saturday, September 21, 2024, after a recent cancer diagnosis.
Katherine was born on March 2, 1962, in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Robert Freeman Robbins and Priscilla Chaplin (Robbins) Crawford.
Katherine had a love of truth and what was right. Even at a young age she had many questions about the purpose of life and her creator, which she found the answers to after a study of the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Thereafter she dedicated her life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on February 11, 1990.
Katherine was funny, outgoing, creative, and talented. Whether it was drawing, crocheting, needlepoint, sewing, smocking, or quilting; she loved working with her hands and creating things for her friends and family to enjoy. She was also a wonderful cook who enjoyed entertaining while her health allowed it. She made beautiful elaborate wedding cakes for many of her friends and acquaintances. She was also a skilled seamstress creating more than one wedding gown as well as other beautiful dresses and the like. She enjoyed collecting dolls and coffee mugs, going to the movies as well as all things Disney. But most of all Katherine loved her family. She had always seen herself as a wife and mother and was so happy that she was able to experience that in her life.
Katherine married her best friend Stephen Powell on October 2, 1993. With whom they raised three sons a daughter and several grandchildren.
With the recent passing of her husband and through her own illness Katherine found much comfort in the promise from the Bible that there is going to be a “resurrection of life” (John 5:28, 29) to a peaceful earth where “no one will say I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24 and Revelation 21:3, 4).
Katherine is survived by her sons, Paul Powell and his wife, Casey Anthony; Ryan Powell and his wife, Mercedes, Scott Powell; her daughter, Elizabeth Powell; her grandchildren, Jonathan Powell, Robbie Powell, Brendan Powell, and Arya Powell all of Staunton; her mother, Priscilla Crawford of Ruckersville; her brothers, Michael Robbins and his wife, Heather, of Waynesboro; J. Hunter Robbins and his wife, Paula, of Seattle; Thomas Crawford II and his wife, Wendy, of Amherst; Wm. Christopher Crawford and his wife, Caroline, of Spring Grove, PA.; and a sister, Karen Mantione and her husband, Daniel, of Ruckersville; as well as her many nieces and nephews whom she enjoyed spoiling.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen, of 31 years; her father, Robert Robbins; her stepfather, Thomas Crawford, Sr.; her sister, Christina S. Crawford; and her beloved grandparents, Violet Dale Chaplin and E. R. Chaplin of Charlottesville, Virginia.
There will be a memorial service held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (1868 Spring Hill Road, Staunton, VA 24401).
There will be a Zoom link available upon request.
