Kathleen Hyde Russell Scott, 89, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at her residence in Staunton.
She was born on August 12, 1936, in Cumberland, VA to the late Frank Spencer and Maude Lincoln Langhorne Russell.
Kathleen dedicated her professional life to education, serving as a schoolteacher with Augusta County Schools. She retired from Beverley Manor.
She was a devoted and active member of Mount Salem Baptist Church in Staunton, VA. She served faithfully as a deaconess and the Sanctuary Choir. She was also a dedicated member of the Christian Women, always willing to lend her time and steady spirit to her church family.
Beyond the church walls, Kathleen found joy in shopping trips, the beach, and moments spent with those she loved most. Time with her family meant everything to her.
She is survived by her son, William Wesley Scott, Jr.; her daughters, Kathy Scott Redman and her husband, Thomas, Debrah Yvonne Scott, and Sheryl Scott Falls and her husband, Derrin, her grandchildren, Porcha Costello, Denice Cubbage, Thomas Redman, II, Nathanial Scott, Andre Tedesco, and LaToya Russell; and multiple great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Wesley Scott, Sr.; her brothers, Spencer and Jimmy Russell; and her sisters, Eunice Ann Russell McLendon-Whitehurst, Lena Doswell, and Inez Smith.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with Reverend Sheila Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM.
Interment will be private.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers, Brenda Wright and Sheila Wallace.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC, 20090-6011).
