Lark D. Mason

Lark Deborah Mason, loving mother and friend to many, departed this life on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Staunton. 

Lark was a lifelong advocate for social justice and environmental issues.  She earned degrees from James Madison University and Marymount University.  Lark spent most of her career working in the social work field, and working to assist others. 

Her many travels in life took her to numerous places including her home state of Virginia, Arizona, Mississippi, Mexico and many others. Along the way, Lark’s infectious laughter and kindness resulted in many dear friendships. Her proudest achievement in life was instilling her deep compassion, independence and bravery in her three daughters. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Irvin and Phyllis Mason, and brothers, Eric and Scott Mason.  

Lark is deeply loved and missed by her three daughters, Kathryn (Matthew), Emily (PJ), Jenna (Blake); granddaughters, Kayla and Magnolia; sister-in-law, Laurel; and nephew, Wesley. Lark also leaves behind extended family members and dear friends who Lark considered part of her family.

A celebration of life will be planned and held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Lark’s family asks that you make a donation in her name to Amnesty International.
