Lester Don Michael, 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at his residence in Churchville. His legacy of commitment to service, love for his family, and passion for farming will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
He was born on April 12, 1945, in West Augusta, to the late Clarence Edward and Margie Fawn Smith Michael.
Lester's career began as a deputy sheriff with the Augusta County Sheriffs Office. In 1970, he transitioned from full-time service to become a reserve game warden, a role that reflected his deep connection to nature and public service. His career took a meaningful turn when he joined his father-in-law, Dr. A.V. Bartenslager, to work at the family farm in Churchville. It was here that Lester’s passion for farming flourished, allowing him to cultivate both crops and meaningful relationships with his family and community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Lester was known for his vibrant spirit and love for life. He embraced the thrill of the hunt and enjoyed all types of sports. As a devoted grandfather, his time spent with his granddaughter filled his heart with joy and pride.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Faith Bartenslager Michael; his son, Shaun Don Michael; his daughter, Deena Faith Michael Wheatley; his granddaughter, Hayley Stewart; his brother, E. Dale Michael; and his sisters, Ruby May Michael Graham, Nancy Lee Michael Blackwell, and Nellie Hevener. He is also survived by his loyal companion, Skeeter, the family dog, who brought him comfort and companionship throughout his days.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James "Jim" Edward Michael, and his sister, Beatrice "Dudy" Rae Michael Graham.
