Linda Rae (Sturm) Mattox, 85, of Newburgh, formerly of Staunton, VA, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. She was born May 16, 1937 in Evansville to the late Frank and Gladys (Langford) Sturm.
She was married to C. Emmett Mattox on August 24, 1963 in Evansville. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Staunton, VA. Linda was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteering. She volunteered at Staunton Hospital/Augusta Medical Center Auxiliary and the local Thrift Shop in Staunton. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling and taking annual trips with friends in Nags Head, NC. She loved her cat, Nuggett.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, C. Emmett Mattox; brother, Charles Lawhead; sisters, June (Lawhead) Nichol and Sharon (Sturm) Weinbach, and nephews, Steven H. Weinbach and Thomas G. Nichol.
She is survived by sister, Martha W. (Kemper) Lease; niece, Deborah L. Fann (David); nephew, Roger Lawhead (Teresa); niece, Cheryl Cochran (Ron); nephew, Allen W. Weinbach; nephew, D. Kemper Lease (Tracey); niece, Kelly S. Johnson (Michael), and many great nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be 3:30 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, officiated by Rev. Greg Davis. Family and friends may visit Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
A Funeral Service will also be held at Henry Funeral Home on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, VA. Family and friends may visit Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
