Linda M. Warren

Linda Musick Warren, 77, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Augusta Health Shenandoah House facility after a three-year battle with soft tissue sarcoma.

She was born on August 4, 1949, in Kingsport, Tennessee to Mary and H.L. Musick. Linda was one of four children, the second born and only daughter.

Linda grew up in the tiny hamlet of Hiltons in rural Scott County, Virginia, located in the heart of the picturesque and rugged hills of the Poor Valley, a region rooted in the struggles and resilience of Southern Appalachia, rich in culture, music, faith, and community. She graduated from Gate City High School and attended Bluefield College for one year prior to transferring to Virginia Tech, from which she graduated in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In her final year at Virginia Tech, Linda met Leland (Lee) Warren, who became her husband on November 26,1971. Lee was extremely fortunate to have shared fifty-four years of married life with Linda.

After graduation, Linda dedicated her career to early childhood education as a preschool and kindergarten teacher. Her passion and focus were sharing the gifts of reading and writing with her students, as well as molding her pupils into caring individuals and decent human beings. As an educator, one of her most prized possessions was her vast collection of children’s literature, which she later shared with her son and eventually her granddaughter as Linda transferred her love of reading and writing to future generations. Throughout her career, she reached students in the US and abroad, teaching at schools in Germany, Virginia, New Jersey, North Carolina and South Carolina as she accompanied Lee in his career moves.

After retiring from education, Linda became an advocate for the underserved members of the local community. She showed the same level of dedication to improving the lives of those around her as she had to her students, acting through Calvary United Methodist Church’s visitation program, where she spent many hours visiting and being a friend to elderly and shut-in people in the region.

Linda was a passionate explorer, and enjoyed traveling with Lee, finding peace and joy in the beauty of pastoral landscapes and unique cultures around the world. Over her lifetime, she and Lee shared journeys to Germany, Austria, France, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Great Britain, and Lithuania. They developed a special fondness for the village of Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales of England, and over numerous stays became a part of the local community there, developing lifelong friendships with those they met during their travels. Linda and Lee were avid cyclists and covered many miles exploring the country roads of Augusta County on their tandem bicycle. In addition, Linda took great pleasure in beating the guys at racquetball at the Staunton YMCA.

At her core, Linda was a kind, caring person and approached her roles as daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend with humility, grace, and a sense of humor. Her intelligence and sharp wit were the fuel for the best conversations, games of Rook, and family gatherings life has to offer. Her legacy is one of altruism, kindness, service to community, and bringing out the beauty in people and places around her and will live on in her descendants and those who knew her well.

Linda is survived by her husband Lee of Staunton, Virginia; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Patrick Warren and Dr. Karen Catignani Warren; her much loved granddaughter, Emily; her brothers, Mark Musick and Lynn Musick; their wives Judy and Katy; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special aunt, Ida Moody.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the physicians and staff at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Augusta Health Cancer Center and the Hospice of the Shenandoah.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft.
