Loretta A. Sheets

Listen to Obituary

Loretta Ann Sheets, 86, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at her residence in Spring Hill.

She was born on September 6, 1940 in Staunton, to the late Mitchell Robertson and Ruth Derry Dove Richmond Puffenbarger.

Loretta lived a life centered around the two things she treasured most: her faith and her family. For those blessed enough to call her Mom, Grandma, family, or friend, Loretta leaves behind something death cannot take away: the love she gave throughout her years, the faith she shared with many, and the pieces of herself she planted in the hearts of those she loved. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the life she lived through her faith and her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will continue to bear fruit for generations still to come.

To know Loretta was to love her. She was sweet and kind, with a tender heart and a genuine love for others—but she could also be a spitfire. She was never afraid to share her faith, speak of her love for the Lord, or tell you exactly what was on her mind. Those who knew her experienced both her tenderness and her strength, and they loved her for every bit of it.

She was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 62 years, Donald Lee Sheets, Sr.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, Raymond Puffenbarger; and five of her nine siblings, Robert Gaylor, Lydie Lambert, Jean Chesnutt, Sharon Milstead, and Karen Puffenbarger.

Loretta is survived by her four children, Donald L. Sheets, Jr. of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Melanie Sheets, Dana Ramsey and her husband Matt, and Debbie Huffer and her partner, Jon Fountaine, all of Staunton.

Her family continued to grow through the generations she loved so dearly. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson due in February 2027, and her precious little companion, Sky.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Henry Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church with Pastor Wanda Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
