Manley Lee Mitchell, 81, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at his residence in Dayton.

He was born on August 4, 1944, in Prince William to the late Earnest Vaiden and Pearlie Cleda Smith Mitchell.Manley loved the outdoors and cherished time spent with his family.

He enjoyed deer hunting, bear hunting, and teaching his grandchildren how to fish. Sundays were often spent relaxing while watching NASCAR races, something he greatly looked forward to each week.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Mitchell of Dayton; his daughters, Paul & Debbie Brown of Dayton and Scott & Karen Sturdivant of Winchester; his granddaughters, Bryan and Angel Parlette of Bridgewater, Kianna Johnson of Appomattox Virginia, and four other additional grandchildren; his great-grandchildren, Aariel Southerly, Wyatt Hartman, Remi Pike, Elijah Sturdivant and one additional great-grandchild. He is also survived by numerous other relatives, special friends: Sierra Watson, Theodore “Teddy” Johnson of Waynesboro, and Robert Smith of Churchville, and his special dog companion, Shelley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Obie Vaiden Mitchell; his sisters, Betty Mae Mitchell Koiner and Martha Ann Mitchell Bright; his granddaughter, Nebraska Mitchell; and his great-granddaughter, Brielle Rose Mitchell.

A celebration of life will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Friday May 22, 2026, at Springhill Presbyterian Church in Staunton.

Henry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
