Marvin C. Fortune

Marvin Cecil Fortune, 87, husband of Diana Lee Gregory Fortune, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at his residence.

Marvin was born on May 13, 1938, in Richmond, a son of the late Ida Mae Fortune Newcomb and his step-father, Drewery Baker Newcomb.

Marvin was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Fishersville. He worked at the E.I. DuPont plant in Richmond for thirty-five years where he was a powerhouse operations specialist. He proudly served four years of active duty in the United States Air Force and was in inactive duty with the National Guard for twenty years. He volunteered at Augusta Health for fifteen years as an escort. He also worked at the Food Pantry in Verona for three years. While he loved target shooting at the Fairfield and Craigsville shooting ranges, he was most passionate about working his HAM radio – usually nightly – and he went by the call sign WA4TOJ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Brenda Holmes (Richard); his son, Scott Fortune (Tammy); his four grandsons, Allen Holmes (Amy), Philip Holmes (Kenny), Brandon Holmes (Tiffany) and Todd Garrison (Emily); a special granddaughter, Shannon Fortune (Kyle); and a step-daughter, Angela. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Jewel Fackler Fortune of forty-five years.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with Pastor Heath Spivey officiating. He will be laid to rest after the service at Dale Memorial Park in Chesterfield. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel, beginning at 10:00 AM.

Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Holmes, Brandon Holmes, Philip Holmes, Scott Fortune, Allen Homes, Todd Garrison and Greg Smith.
