Mary G. Caywood

Mary “Connie” Constantina Georganzis Caywood, 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

She was born on February 17, 1940, in Washington, D.C., to the late Nickolas Paul and Emma Louise Deihr Georganzis.

Mary was a proud military wife who dedicated her life to supporting her husband throughout his service. During their travels with the military, Mary managed and ran several high-end restaurants.

Family was everything to Mary. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings-who all lived nearby. The close relationship she shared with her brothers and sisters was one of the greatest joys in her life. Her favorite hobby was simply being with her family.

Mary had a deep love for animals, and she enjoyed traveling, whether it was for her husband’s career or for pleasure. She worked at Leggett’s in downtown Staunton for many years and then later at SunTrust Bank.

She is survived by her son, Anthony Scott Caywood (Lisa); her brothers, George Nick and Phillip Nick Georganzis; her sisters, Angela Georganzis and Olga Georganzis Sandy (Danny); and her grandsons, Chase Cameron (Morgan) and Collin Chandler Caywood; her great-grandchildren, Cameron David and Leo Michael Caywood; her sisters-in-law, Janet Georganzis and Terry Brogan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Winston Caywood; and her brother, Paul Lewis Georganizis.

A private graveside service will be held at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton with the Reverend Luke Smith officiating.
