Mary S. Reed

Mary Martha Simmons Reed, 96, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.

She was born in Augusta County on March 25, 1929, to the late Carl Dewey and Dorothy Iota Arey Simmons.

She is survived by her two daughters, Glenda Darlene Reed Haynie and her husband, Jim and Shirley Carlene Reed Adams; her grandchildren, Darrell Luther Haynie, Tamara Devon Haynie Cooper and her husband, Alex, Misty Dawn Adams Sours and her husband, Whit, and Nina Rachelle Adams Rexrode and her husband, Jason; her great-grandchildren, Bryce Preston Rexrode, Brianna Rachelle Rexrode, Brenden Lee Rexrode, Spencer Lee Sours, Aubrie Ann Sours, and Carter Thomas Sours; her brother, Graham Arey Simmons and his wife, Linda; her sister, Betty Marie Simmons Allen; a sister-in-law, Lynda Franklin Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-nine years, Cleo Arehart Reed, and a brother, Carl Donald Simmons.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McKinley with Pastor Lance Braun officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow at Mount Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery in Newport.

Serving as pallbearers will be Darrell Haynie, Whit Sours, and Alex Cooper. Jason Rexrode will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
