Matthew Alan Koogler, 25, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 at UVA Medical Center. He battled pediatric cancer for nine years and was a “fighter, who never gave up”. If you asked his crew, he was known as “Koog”.
Matthew was born on July 26, 1997 in Fishersville to Christopher A. and Kelly Suzanne (Marx) Koogler.
He graduated from Riverheads High School in 2015, then received four certificates in mechatronics from BRCC. He was employed as a mechatronics technician at Hershey’s.
He enjoyed putting a smile on your face and was very likable, an inspiration to many. He also enjoyed snowboarding, fishing, kayaking, wakeboarding and was an outdoor enthusiast.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Allison Suzanne Koogler; his maternal grandmother, Suzanne Marx; his fiancé, Brooke Layman; and his special pets, Dixie and Zoey.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Barry Marx and his paternal grandparents, Elmer and Lena Mae Koogler.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm, Thursday, September 29, 2022 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, September 30, 2022 at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church by Pastor Chris Guyer. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Zach Weaver, Christian Armstrong, Brandon Roadcap, Alex Botkin, Ray Carey, Christian Moore, Giancarlo Antonnicola.
