STAUNTON – Melvin Leroy “Cowboy” Carpenter, 87, husband of Janice (Seveir) Carpenter, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at his residence.
He was born August 11, 1934 in Bolar, VA, son of the late Gaylon and Lottie (Gutshall) Carpenter.
Melvin retired from Woodrow Wilson Rehab.
In addition to his wife, family includes his son, Stacy “Britt” Carpenter; his daughter, Anda and spouse Darren Ruff; two grandchildren, Britney and Sheridan Ruff; a sister-in-law of Franklin, WV, Anna Lee Mitchell; and two very special granddogs, Chloe and Dapper.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Frances Ratcliffe, and brothers, Gray Carpenter and Randolph Gutshall.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Ratcliffe, Keith Carpenter, Kenneth Carpenter, Kevin Carpenter, Tracy Smith, Bill Mitchell, and Jim Mitchell.
