Mickie R. Messer

Mickie Ray Messer, 70, of Staunton, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, with the family he so dearly loved at his side.

Born on July 4, 1954, he was one of three sons of the late Oma M. Good.

Mickie is survived by his devoted wife of fifty years, Belinda Diana Barker Messer - despite his being very ill, the couple celebrated their Golden Anniversary in May of 2025 - a milestone marked by a lifetime of love, partnership, and unwavering commitment.

A proud father and grandfather, Mickie is also survived by his daughter, Amy Lynn Herman and her husband, Ted, of Staunton; and his son, Adam R. Messer and his partner, Jacquline Harper, also of Staunton. He was a beloved "Papaw" to his grandsons, Bishop Drake Frye and Jacob Cage Frye. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Hayden and Evelynn Frye.

Mickie spent many years working for Dixie Gas and Oil in Verona, where he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of colleagues with his dedication and hard work. After retiring far too early from deteriorating health, he poured his time and energy into what mattered most to him - his family. Whether it was a quiet visit, a mealtime chat, or a gathering of long-distance relatives - coffee cup in hand, Mickie's heart was always with the ones he loved.

His life was one of quiet strength, selfless devotion, and deep unrelenting love. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his kind and gentle heart, and the pride he took in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Mickie's soft and quiet nature, the family will honor his life privately in the days to come - once hearts have had time to begin healing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Mickie by spending time with your loved ones and cherishing every single moment - just as he always did.
