Mildred Dare Hoover Burns, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.
She was born on April 2, 1932, in Millboro to the late Hunter Kyle and Lila Rebecca Neff Hoover.
She worked at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton for nearly thirty years on the housekeeping staff.
Mildred was an active and faithful member of Jerusalem Chapel U.B. Church in Churchville.
She loved baking cakes for many people over the years. She loved being with her family and always wanted to send you home with something delicious. She also loved to watch wrestling.
She is survived by her son, Roger Lynn Burns and his wife, Kim, of Staunton; her daughters, Brenda Kay Burns Botkin and her husband, Joe, of Staunton and Dawn Elaine Burns of Verona; her granddaughters, Suzie Burns Minor, Becky Burns, Ashley Botkin Adams, and Jody Smith; her grandson, Joey Botkin; her great-granddaughters, Madison Botkin, Emma and Molly Smith, and Lucy Adams; her great-grandsons, Daniel Switzer, Noah Botkin, Logan and Levi Smith, and Carson Minor; and two special friends, Bud and Wilma Gutshall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Floyd Asa Suddarth Burns; her brothers, Earl Hunter, Charles William, and Clifford Wayne Hoover; and her sisters, Leona Faye Hoover Chandler, Carol Jean Hoover Propst, and Wilma Ruth Hoover Thrasher.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Jerusalem Chapel Church. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Reverend George Etling officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Marshall, Butch Nulty, Robert Bennett, Charlie Lyle, Verlyn Martin, and Buford Masincup.
It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to Legacy Hospice (14 Old Oaks Drive, Ste. 101, Fishersville, VA 22939) or to Jerusalem Chapel Church (935 Jerusalem Chapel Road, Churchville, VA 24421).
